What is a Content Specialist?

A content specialist has over a decade of experience working freelance content marketing for small businesses and nonprofits. Because of this, she will have learned to write, edit, strategize, plan, execute, and develop digital content for websites, social media, newsletters, blogs, and other promotional materials.

When her clients can't afford to pay the big guys for work, she learns how to help. Whether it's crafting content in WordPress, Squarespace, or Wix or learning to use Canva to create digital and print designs. She picks up iMovie, figures out how to edit videos, and even shoots them with her iPhone when necessary.

A content specialist has a background in academic writing, is a voracious reader, and loves researching. She stays up-to-date on web trends, writing styles, web applications, software, and technology relevant to marketing as well as the businesses of her clients.

Continually expanding her skill set, she's perpetually enrolled in continuing education classes like Copyediting 101 through the Editorial Freelancers Association. And Grammar Girl is one of her favorite podcasts.

Most importantly, a content specialist uses all the skills she's learned and is still learning to make her clients' lives easier.

At heart, I love to write, edit, and research. I love the digital tools that allow me to be creative with written and visual assets. I am a grammar nerd. I advocate for more web accessibility for people with disabilities, and I make that a part of my practice in creating content as much as possible. I bring all my years working with diverse clients on wide-ranging projects to the table. I have an eclectic resume, and my motley background is precisely what makes me a content specialist.
